Elizabeth Hiester

Elizabeth Hiester will be the moderator of breakout session C) Democracy, accountability and the rule of law.

Elizabeth joined the London office of ClientEarth as a Senior Lawyer in April 2011.

Within the Health and environment programme, her current focus is on the use of legal process to drive the effective implementation of REACH, the regulatory scheme designed to ensure that chemical substances put on the EU market do not adversely affect human health or the environment. She is also working on pesticide regulation, with particular emphasis on the protection of bees and other pollinators.

Her law degree at the University of Manchester was followed by interdisciplinary EU studies at the University of Amsterdam. She qualified as a solicitor with the international law firm of Clifford Chance where, for many years as a partner, she led the highly regarded communications and technology cross-practice group.

In 2010, Elizabeth completed a Masters in Environmental Law and Policy at University College London, after pursuing a short programme of study at Writtle College covering a range of practical and scientific issues involved in conservation and environmental management.
